'A second lieutenant under General Barberis' command, he was captured by the British—specifically, a platoon of New Zealanders—after surviving the hellish Battle of Tobruk in January 1941. He was first transferred to Bangalore and, after a 2,500-kilometre journey, arrived on April 3, 1942, at a British prisoner-of-war camp nestled in the Indian Himalayas.'
