Short summary / description
-
Independence Rock is an oil-painted mural by Enzo Tarquinio in the Officer’s Club in Camp Douglas. The mural is located in the Main/Dance Hall, facing the Pool Room, on the wall nearer the kitchen, to the right. Painted between Oct 1943 and April 1944. 'When Enzo Tarquinio copied William Henry Jackson’s painting of a wagon train passing Independence Rock, he stayed close to the original on the right. But the left half of the picture is from his own imagination, and its landscape looks, perhaps, more like Italy than Wyoming' (Laura Ruberto, https://www.wyohistory.org/encyclopedia/italian-painter-wyoming-pow-camp). Measurements in inches: 199”w x 68” h.
