Short description
-
Camps 3 and 4 located are considered part of the Tatura group but were located near the neighbouring town of Rushworth. Camp 3 was set aside for family groups of Italian and German nationality hailing from Australia, Iran, Palestine, Singapore and Malaysia. Jewish families and single women were also held there. It was divided into four sections by barbed wire and internees lived in huts with shared washing facilities. Camp 4 was set up for Italian, German, Finnish, Hungarian and Romanian nationals who had emigrated to Australia before the Second World War. They lived in poorly insulated iron huts and socialised in the camp’s café, grew vegetables and organised concerts. The Europeans were later relocated to make way for an increasing influx of Japanese internees.
