Bound volume 'Il Guado' (The ford) [numero uno di arte e letteratura], created by non-collaborating Italian prisoners of war (POWs) at Camp Hereford, Texas, June 1944.

This one-of-a-kind book, edited by Atillio Valdettaro and Federico Barocci, contains paintings, drawings, musical compositions, poems, and stories evoking the men’s longing for home as well as portraits of camp life, including narratives of Italy’s colonial and Fascist interests. Among the authors is Giuseppe Berto, most well-known for his The Sky Is Red (Il cielo è rosso) and Incubus (Il male oscuro).
